Start Point: The Hoddington Arms, Bidden Lane, Upton Grey, Basingstoke, RG25 2RL https://www.hoddingtonarms.co.uk https://what3words.com/middle.cooked.rephrase

March 2026 - please note that the Hoddington Arms is temporarily closed due to fire damage. Please do not park in their car park, use adjacent roads.

 1

Turn left out of the Hoddington Arms car park and take the first left up Lees Hill. Go past the entrances to Hoddington Estate and Hoddington Lodge and then turn right to pick up the footpath accessed through a kissing gate (approx 0.3 miles, 0.5 km).

 2

Follow the path, with hedges either side, until reaching a T-junction. Turn right and then after a short distance turn left into a field with a wide pathway ahead. Views back to Upton Grey on the right.

 3

Head across the field until you reach a break in the hedge. Follow the path that runs parallel with a road below to your right. At the end of the path turn right and head downhill, turning sharply to the left before reaching Weston Patrick and out on to Church Lane. Head downhill and cross a road (can be busy at times). Head straight across to the footpath.

 4

Follow the footpath around to the left and emerge on to a lane (Weston Corbett). Turn right and head down the lane until a left bend with a house on the right. Take the footpath on the right before the house, climbing a stile, and head up by the side of the house to emerge on to an open field. Head uphill through the field following the clearly marked path until you reach a gate, turn right on to the lane.

 5

Hay Down is on the opposite side of the lane. Head down the lane past Reeds Farm House until you reach a large double gateway on the right. Take the opening to the side of the gate and walk ahead along the bridleway. The wide path continues through the Dower Farm Estate until you come to a road. Cross the road and go straight ahead - at this point the Three Castles Path (a long distance path from Winchester to Windsor) joins the footpath. Continue ahead for 0.7 miles (1.12 km), ignoring a junction of paths to the left and right, until reaching the next right turn. Take the very wide track turning right.

 6

Continue up the track until you reach a white house on your right. Ignore the right hand turn heading towards some houses. Instead go straight ahead for a short distance and enter the footpath on your right. Head through the kissing gate and across the field to reach a lane. Cross the lane and take the footpath which weaves around the back of a stone sculpture yard and a walled-garden.

 7

You are now back in Upton Grey. The path emerges on to Church Street. Head downhill past Upton Grey Village Shop and Cafe and on to the village pond. Turn left at the junction and the Hoddington Arms is a short distance ahead.
