Walk Leading
& Back Marker Training
Organising a month-long walking festival each year, as well and numerous local walking groups depends upon the dedication of our walk leaders and back markers, for without them none of what we do would be possible. Leading and back-marking walks can be great fun and an opportunity to make a great contribution to our local walking community. We are always looking for new volunteers, so why not consider joining us?
Walk Alton runs two half-day local in-person leader and back-marker training sessions in March each year, ahead of the May Festival . Our experienced leaders will help you understand how to lead successful walks and bring to life the important role of the back marker in a friendly interactive discussion. If you would like to join the next session, please get in touch.

There are also online courses run by the Ramblers Association available on the website that take place throughout the year. Take a look and see if there’s one on a date that suits you – they’re free to access and there’s no obligation to lead or back-mark a walk unless you want to.
