A Walk for Everyone

One of the highlights of this year's Walking Festival is a circular walk designed with accessibility at its heart – and an opportunity to try something a little bit different.

On 19 May, Jannine and Sally Stoodley are leading a ‘Ramble With Wheels’. The route follows footpaths and sunken lanes around the foot of Holybourne Downs and takes in Holybourne Church, a beautiful and fully accessible building that makes a natural and welcome stopping point.

The walk is graded Stop & Look, covers around 2 miles, and takes approximately 2 hours. It's suitable for all off-road wheelchairs, dogs are welcome on a lead, and the pace is gentle. For those on foot, the terrain is moderately easy, though good footwear is recommended.

The White Hart pub provides parking and accessible facilities at the start of the walk, and is open for coffee and lunches for those who want to extend the morning a little further.

Try an off-road wheelchair

For anyone who has been curious about what an off-road wheelchair can actually do, this is a fantastic opportunity to find out. Mountain Trike will have a number of their off-road trikes available to try on the day (places are limited, so first come, first served). Whether you're a regular wheelchair user looking for more adventurous options, or simply want to see what's possible, it's well worth arriving with an open mind.
